The Progress headline above proclaims
"Philpsburg-Osceola to play Clearfield for 58th time . . ",
and while that's technically pretty close ( my records show it as "59th", but why split hairs? ), it conceals
a much longer history between the two squads. Before P-O became P-O it was "Philipsburg High School"
and back then the Mounties & Bison had met every year from 1923 to 1955 (thirty-three games) and
during that same period the Bison had played Osceola H.S. twenty times. Also, Clearfield had played Philipsburg twice in 1909 (1-1) and Osceola in 1914 & 1915. Adding those games to the history shows
that the total is now about twice the figure in the headline. In fact, P-O and it's predecessor schools
are ranked right up with Du Bois as the team the Bison have played the most times over the years.
