On October 28 our Bison faced the Karns City Gremlins, coming out on top 35-28
Here is some information about them ~

Karns City (wiki) is located in Butler County PA, about 92 miles from Clearfield - Map

The Karns City Area School District draws students from the boroughs of Chicora, Fairview,
Karns City, Petrolia, and Bruin, and the townships of Parker, Fairview, Donegal,
Perry, Sugar Creek, Brady's Bend, and Brady. KCASD Website.

If Jim Kelly , former Miami (FL) & Buffalo Bills Hall-of-Fame quarterback was in
High School today he would be playing at Karns City, the district having absorbed
enrollment from Kelly's alma mater ~ the now closed East Brady High School.
Before their consolidation Karns City and East Brady had been rivals.
Kelly occasionally returns for visits to East Brady and to Karns City High.

Kelly is among six Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterbacks from Western Pennsylvania, along
with George Blanda, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, Joe Montana and Dan Marino.
( go to the very bottom for the story of my "encounter" with Jim Kelly)

Serving a population of around 11,000 residents, the KCASD has an enrollment of
about 760 students in grades 7 thru 12 and in 2010 KCHS graduated 106.

Under the new six-tier PIAA Classification system instituted just this season,
Karns City is AAA while Clearfield is AAAA. Within Triple A, Karns City
is ranked at
#16, Clearfield at #25 in Quad A (a/o 10/24/16).
In overall State Rankings Clearfield is
#148, Karns City #144.

Update, 10/26/16 ~ Clearfield is now State Ranked #150 .
The other listings above remain the same.

Some interesting, though possibly meaningless, comparisons ~

Du Bois (6-3) is the only team to beat Clearfield (Week 1) and is #35 AAAA, #200 Statewide

Armstrong (8-1) , the only loss for Karns City (also Week 1) is #3 AAAAA, #28 Statewide

Armstrong's only loss came at the hands of Franklin Regional (Murrysville ) (6-2) , #8 AAAAA and #59 State.
( Franklin Regional is the alma mater of Coach Glunt's parents Tim & Cheryl )

Central High (8-1), which Clearfield defeated 30-28 in Week 3 for their only loss is #11 in AAA, #100 State Ranking

So, in terms of the Karns City - Clearfield matchup ~
Karns City's only loss is to
Armstrong,  also 8-1 and ranked #3 5A/ #28.
Clearfield's only loss was to DuBois (6-3 and ranked #35 4A/#200)

Among KC's wins there were three teams ( St. Marys, C-L & Clarion ) with winning records.
Of those three, only Clarion has significant ranking (7-1, #38 AA, #286)

We had wins over two teams with winning records ~
Central (8-1, #11 3A/#100) and Tyrone (5-4, #43 3A, #285)

To put things in perspective among the teams discussed above; recent changes in red (down) or green (up) :

My fifteen minutes of fame ~

Years back I attended the National Bar & Nightclub Show in Las Vegas with good friend Denny Liegey. Jim Kelly
was working the Coors Light booth where you could get an autograph and have your picture taken with him.
Stupidly, but oblivious, I was wearing a New York Jets ballcap to which Jim took immediate (feigned) umbrage.

Jim: "What's with the Jets hat ??"

Me: "I'm from western Pennsylvania and have always liked their quarterback, that #12 guy."

Jim:  "Yeah, I'm from western Pennsylvania too, I'm a quarterback, and I'm #12 too.
You don't like me ?? "

Me: "stutter, stutter, stammer, stammer"

So, at that point he took my Jets cap and plopped it back on my head, upside down and inside out ~
then they took the picture. ( a Polaroid, of course - remember them ? ) Afterward, Jim offered
that he too had always been a
fan of Joe Willie himself, and we parted as buddies (I hope).
